"Hot Mic" Trott

WAPO: Hot mic catches GOP congressman's adviser planning spin about 'un-American' protesters

On Saturday, Rep. Dave Trott (R-Mich.) had just wrapped up a boisterous town hall meeting in Novi, northwest of Detroit, and he was headed backstage - where a member of his team brainstormed an angle for the news media... "Congressman Trott needs to apologize to his constituents right away," said Mark Barbieri, a Trott constituent who attended the meeting to describe his diabetic son's experience under the Affordable Care Act. "Calling an entire crowd of concerned citizens 'un-American' is no way for an elected official to treat their constituents. I am literally fighting for my son's life and to be called 'un-American' is beyond the pale."

Eclectablog: Millionaire Republican Rep. Trott & team plan to portray constituents as "un-American" after townhall

Millionaire Republican David Trott (MI-11) held a raucous townhall meeting this past weekend where upwards of one thousand of his constituents tried to attend, many of whom were left out in the cold because the venue they chose was too small to contain them all... "Congressman Trott needs to apologize to his constituents right away. Bragging about screening our questions after promising not to is the kind of typical Washington politician doublespeak that people are fed up with. And calling an entire crowd of concerned citizens 'un-American' is no way for an elected official to treat their constituents," said Mark Barbieri, whose son has Type 1 diabetes. "I am literally fighting for my son's life and to be called 'un-American' is beyond the pale."

Trott Town Hall

Freep: Trott's town hall gets rowdy, raucous, while hundreds get left in cold

NOVI - Despite heavy snowfall and treacherous roads, nearly 1,000 people - many angry and ready for a confrontation - came to a town hall meeting in Novi this morning to badger, boo and challenge U.S. Rep. David Trott in person...Amber Barbieri, a 35-year-old from Troy, stood throughout the hour-long town hall meeting holding aloft a picture of her 6-year-old son Julius, who has Type 1 diabetes. "I've called. I've showed up and tried to make appointments and it's always, we'll get back to you," she said. So that's why she showed up on a snowy Saturdaymorning: to try and get Trott to pledge to really delve into the replacement for the Affordable Care Act and make sure that insurance companies don't discriminate against clients with pre-existing conditions or charge them more for their insurance. She didn't get what she came for. "I think this was a joke. I don't think anything was accomplished with this," Barbieri said after the town hall meeting. "I've called. I've showed up and tried to make appointments and it's always, we'll get back to you," she said.
